Our History

As a former lessons and studio manager at Guitar Center in Mobile, Alabama, I had the opportunity to grow a program as I saw fit as a professional musician. Then, I saw how a program should not be run like Guitar Center wanted, and I could not take advantage of students or customers that way.

Between highly questionable billing practices, sales campaigns, unrealistic refund and cancellation policies, and being forced to assign students (for example, banjo) to instructors who had no clue how to play the banjo, I could not work that way. As management would not allow me to return to teaching, the time came to part ways.

As a result, The Rocker Doc Music Education came to fruition. An opportunity for me to give the best possible lessons for considerably less money.

After all, you should get what you pay for, and with Rocker Doc Music Education, you get a lot more for a lot less.

Our Philosophy

I don't teach out of a book. I customize each student's lessons based on what THEY WANT TO LEARN. Just want to learn and play songs? No problem. Want to learn how to solo? Even better. I have developed unique, fun, and successful teaching methods that get you playing right away and allow you to retain what you learn. Sure, there are some basics involved that you'll need to learn, like scales (BORING). But I make learning them fun and meaningful, which will pay off for you.

Whether playing for a campout, in sold-out arenas, or just in your bedroom, I want you to succeed in your musical journey. Tell me where you want to go; I'll do my best to get you there!

At Rocker Doc Music Education, we are Music Educators, not just Instructors

You didn’t come this far to stop

At Rocker Doc Music Education, we teach you how to play an instrument, not merely instruct you how to play one. Sure, one could say we're using a play on words, but think about it.

You have instructions on how to use a power tool, and you might get away with it. Are you TAUGHT how to use that tool? A musical instrument is no different. Anyone can merely instruct you on playing that instrument, but it takes an educator to TEACH you how to play. And in a market flooded with so-called guitar "instructors," we set ourselves apart.

I will eventually add additional music educators. The standards have already been established and are rigid; we will follow a strict process that includes a panel interview with professional musicians and an audition. Unlike some lesson programs, we won't hire our personal friends here at RD Music Ed because they need jobs. Our music educators will be professional musicians specializing in one or two instruments at most and will have verifiable teaching experience with that instrument.

If you want to learn how to play, you're at the right place. There are many "instructors" out there, but good luck finding someone who will teach you to play your instrument. All while having fun doing so.
